UK export guidance · open beta

One product. One country. One page telling you how to ship it legally.

Government guidance is organised by regulation and written for firms with a compliance department. Exportly is organised by the shipment: tell us what you sell and where it is going, and get a Route Card — can you ship it, what paperwork it needs, what it will cost, and where every answer came from.

Free plan, no card needed. During the beta, Solo is free for six months with the code BETA.

What you must produce

  • GB EORI numberYou cannot make a UK export declaration without one. It is free, and it is the first thing to sort out — applications are usually processed within a week.
  • Commercial invoiceThe core document. Customs at the other end use it to work out what the goods are and what they are worth. It needs the commodity code, the value, the country of origin, and both parties' details.
  • Packing listWhat is physically in each box, with weights. Your carrier will usually ask for it, and it is what gets checked if the shipment is opened.
  • UK export declarationSubmitted to HMRC before the goods leave. Almost every small exporter has their carrier or a customs agent file this rather than doing it themselves.
Step 1

Tell us what you ship

Six questions, most of them optional. Plain English, the materials, the country it is made in, and where it is going first. You do this once per product.

Step 2

Get the Route Card

Seconds later: whether anything stops the shipment, the commodity code, the checklist of paperwork, a cost band, and what we could not answer — with the official source under every line.

Step 3

Produce the paperwork

Tick items off as you go. Generate the commercial invoice, packing list and declarations from the same answers. Print it, or share a read-only copy with your forwarder.

What we will not do

Every answer carries a confidence level and a source. When there is no official answer, we say so.

  • We never invent a number

No free official source publishes what your buyer pays in duty on arrival, so no Route Card shows one. It says so, and offers a route to someone who can confirm it.

  • We are not customs advice

Exportly organises published sources. It does not certify a classification or file a declaration. You stay responsible for your own paperwork, and the card says so on every page.

  • We are not the government

Not affiliated with HMRC or GOV.UK. Every source we cite is theirs, linked, with the date we last checked it.

  • When it needs a human, we say so

Low-confidence answers carry a link to a customs agent we can introduce you to. They contract with you directly at their own rates; if they pay us a referral fee, we say so before you engage them.

Beyond the card

Built for the shipment after this one, too.

  • Documents

Commercial invoice, packing list, origin declaration and pro-forma, generated from the card. Anything we cannot stand behind is watermarked DRAFT with the reason.

  • Rule alerts

Watch a route and get an email when something material changes — a new licence requirement, a measure lifted. Every version is kept, so you can show what it said on the day you shipped.

  • Share links

A read-only, expiring link for your forwarder or your buyer. They see the card; they cannot see your account or change your checklist.

  • A customs agent

One button on every card. Tell us what needs confirming; we introduce you to a broker who quotes you directly.

Pricing

Priced by how much you ship, not by how much you get.

The bottom tier is the whole product with a volume cap. Nobody gets a crippled version because they are small.
